We are pleased to welcome Michael J. Morris, MD to Joint Implant Surgeons. Dr. Morris will be studying as a Fellow with us through July 1, 2010. A fellowship is a period of advanced training in a specialized area, such as joint replacement, that some doctors choose to undertake after finishing their residency. Our fellow assists our surgeons in the operating room and in our clinic. Typically, to become an orthopaedic surgeon, doctors spend 4 years pursuing an undergraduate (pre-medical) degree, 4 years in medical studying for their medical doctorate (MD) or osteopathic school for their doctorate of osteopathy (DO), then 5 years in an orthopaedic surgery residency, then 6 months or one year completing one or more fellowships. Dr. Morris received his medical doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at Duke University in Durham, NC.
