Hip Resurfacing

Hip resurfacing surgery is an option for the younger, more active patient needing a hip replacement. Hip resurfacing is similar to total hip replacement in that a cup replaces the rough hip socket (pelvis); however, it differs because instead of completely removing the worn ball of your thighbone (femur) your surgeon will reshape and resurface the head of the femur with a metal prosthesis. This procedure allows your surgeon to leave more of your healthy bone in place.
